Ukraine

Until most recently, lots of people all over the world did not even suspect about such a country as Ukraine. After the Soviet Union fell into pieces in 1991, the situation has changed drastically, and nowadays Ukraine is known almost to everybody, and it is considered a prospective Eastern European state. Owing to such personalities as Yana Klochkova, Andriy Shevchenko, the Klitchko brothers, Ukraine is well known and duly respected in the world of professional sports, and these personalities are not the only ones we may be proud of.

The modern Ukraine is one of the largest countries in Europe, occupying 603,7 thousand sq. km, the second territory in Europe after Russia only. Its population comprises 48 million citizens.

We have beautiful rivers: the Dnieper with its general length of 981 km. The largest mountain system here is the Ukrainian part of the Carpathian Mts with the highest peak of Ukraine being the Goverla (2061 m).

The natural resources and the famous black earths (also known as chernozems) allowed for Ukraine's being one of the leading countries in growing grain-crops. The Krivoi Rog iron ore basins and the coal mines of the Donets Basin are well-known in the world.

Ukraine is also rich in its historic monuments, and history in general. The age of historic monuments of Ukraine goes as far as being of the Tripol culture (3rd millennium BC). The cities of Kyiv, Lvov, Chernigov are rich in their historic, architectural, and art monuments of the early feudal epoch. These cities, and also Odessa, Uzhgorod, Chernovtsy are genuine museum-cities, unique in their architectural ensembles. One of the most unique cities is Zaporozhye with its Khortytsa island (the capital of the Cossacks).

If you are a nature lover, just go to any of the unique natural preserves that occupy 2.5 million hectares in Ukraine. The most well-known of them is the biosphere natural presrve "Askania-Nova".

The shores of the Black and Azov Seas are a real dream for beach, luxurious hotels and entertainment lovers.

The Crimea is considered an Eden on earth by right, this verdured peninsula, surrounded by warm seas, with its sanatoriums, Ancient Greek temples, Genoese fortresses, tzar and khan palaces. Yalta, Alushta, Sevastopol, Yevpatoria have always been the tasty morsels for Soviet regime leaders.
